Finding Faith through Bible Study, Morning Reading

Trial Sermon: Psalm 5:1-12

verse 1) [[To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David.]] Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

verse 2) Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

verse 3) My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

(Ref: Psa.30:5)

verse 4) For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

(ref: Mal.2:17)

verse 5)  The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

(ref: Psa. 14:1,The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Hab.1:13 -Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?)

Focus Points: Habakkuk 1:13 – Judah’s forthcoming punishment would be at the hands of the Babylonians. Habakkuk was appalled that God would use a nation more wicked than Judah to punish Judah. But the Babylonians did not know they were being used by God to help Judah return to him, and Babylon’s pride in its victory would be its down fall. Evil is self-destructive, and it is never beyond God’s control. God may use whatever unusual instrument he choses to correct or punish us. When we deserve punishment or correction, how can we complain about the kind of “rod” God uses on us?

verse 6) Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

verse 7) But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

ref: 1Kings 8:29 – May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.

verse 8)  Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

verse 9)   For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

verse 10) Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

verse 11)  But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. ref; 1Cor.2:9 – However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”[fn]— the things God has prepared for those who love him— verse 30 -Hear from heaven your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

verse 12) For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Focus Points:

Psalms  5:3 – The secret of a close relationship with God is to pray to him earnestly each morning. In the morning, our minds are more free fro problems and then we can commit the whole day to God. Regular communication helps any friendship and is certainly necessary for a strong relationship with God. We need to communicate with him daily. Do you have a regular time to pray and read God’s word?

5:5 – God cannot condone or excuse even the smallest sin. Therefore we cannot excuse ourselves for sinning only a little bit. As we grow spiritually, our sensitivity to sin increases. What is your reaction to sin in your life?  Are you insensitive, unconcerned, disappointed, or comfortable?  As God makes us aware of sin, we must be intolerant toward it and be willing to change. All believers should strive to be more tolerant of people but less tolerant of the sin in others and in themselves.
